Parliamentary computers including Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd and Defence Minister Stephen Smith were believed to have been hacked.  US intelligence officials had to alert their Australian counterparts.  ASIO then started an investigation.

The high-security departmental network may have been leaking more than a month.

Australia has a new counter-espionage unit the Cyber Security Operations Centre (CSOC) under the Department of Defence.  The Attorney-General’s Department, the Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) Australia, ASIO and the Defence Signals Directorate (DSD) will be looking into what happened to the critical infrastructure.
